Sorry to hear that, e arly bird gets the worm......

I also lowballed it a bit because it needed so much work done. Not sure it would’ve mattered.

[Insert ‘it wasn’t meant to be’ or some other such platitude]
Good luck on your continued searches . :)

Man you have the worst luck. I was hoping the post would continue, "to me."

It’s always down to, how much do I want it and how hard will it be to find another one. I paid a little too much for my wagon but it was low miles, all dealer maintained down to the wiper blades and one owner. I got them down a bit and used my CRV for some of it as a trade. I tend to pay more if it’s something I think will take time to find, but that’s me, maybe I’m impatient or I don’t think I will ever see another the way I really want again. I like that Green, for that I might have just ponied up VS a red one or something. The XJ I might make a change with someday is an XJ6 Jaaag, an MK1. If I found I BRG XJ6 in decent shape that had the engine swap already performed, shit I might pay too much...

Sounds like you bid a little high because you didn’t want to do the work?
![]() 10/22/2020 at 14:26 |

Bid a little low because I can’t do the work myself.

I have always liked these and a neighbor a couple blocks away has a nice automatic version in the same color. Are there any less rusty examples available in other states for similar money? Like does the 6-$ 800 on shipping one from Arizona purchased for the same price make sense because you will get $1,000 less rust and associated issues?

I’ve been searching nationwide off and on; certainly willing to buy one from the dry southwest, but manuals come up rarely and they’re often on the steep side when they do.

That's actually more what I was getting at, not sure why I said high, that doesn't make sense...haha, one of those days apparently.

I get it now. I poked around CL (Tempest search engine) for XJ with with transmission type - Manual and you either get this, which doesn’t seem bad for $2,900

Or straight off the showroom (not really, but it looks really clean) -

It also seems in those areas people use them off-road a lot and they get a little beat up.

Clearly this is a sign that the universe wants you to buy a FWD/manual
Jeep Patriot instead!

Just to taunt me, the universe placed this in my path tonight. G rateful it isn’t a manual to make the pain that much worse.

The yellow one is yours, right? Or you drive one like it?

That’s mine yes.

Then Lego’s making a set that looks almost exactly like your Jeep next year:
It’s even the right color! It’s a Rubicon and has the wrong tires, but fixing that is just a matter of swapping out the tire pieces and not applying a couple stickers.

Thanks, I’ll h ave to grab that.
But actually I like this homemade one better. I’ve been saving this for a Jeeps of Reddit post.

How about this one?

Heh, just looked at that. A little rough and a little steep for being so rough, but a classic.
I’ve got a pile of them, I’m preparing a post.

Yeah, if it wasn’t beat up I’d think about it. What about this? Not a manual, but looks good.

That is awfully sharp. I’m hoping for a 4 door (and obviously a manual) but if that were nearby I’d go take a look at it.
![]() 10/22/2020 at 22:14 |
|
For some reason I thought you wanted a 2 door. I’ll look again. And I can always take a look at anything in this area for you and send you more and better photos.
![]() 10/22/2020 at 22:16 |

Thanks! I’ve only gradually settled on the 4 door, but it’s not set in stone. I’ve just been stuck with a 2 door Jeep for so long I’d appreciate the flexibility to reach into the back seat through a door, even if the doors are too small to be comfortable to climb in.
Where are you located? I greatly appreciate the offer!
